چکیده

Guo J, Williams DJ, Ikeda SR. N-arachidonoyl L-serine, a putative endocannabinoid, alters the activation of N-type Ca channels in sympathetic neurons. J Neurophysiol 100: 1147–1151, 2008. First published January 30, 2008; doi:10.1152/jn.01204.2007. The effect of N-arachidonoyl L-serine (ARA-S), a recently discovered lipoamino acid found in the CNS, on N-type Ca channels of rat sympathetic ganglion neurons was determined using whole cell patch clamp. Application of ARA-S produced a rapid and reversible augmentation of Ca current that was voltage dependent and resulted from a hyperpolarizing shift in the activation curve. ARA-S did not influence G protein modulation of Ca channels and appeared to act independently of G-protein-coupled receptors. These findings provide a foundation for investigating possible roles for ARA-S in nervous system function.

The endogenous brain constituent N-arachidonoyl L-serine is an activator of large conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels.

The novel endocannabinoid-like lipid N-arachidonoyl L-serine (ARA-S) causes vasodilation through both endothelium-dependent and -independent mechanisms. We have analyzed the vasorelaxant effect of ARA-S in isolated vascular preparations and its effects on Ca(2+)-activated K(+) currents in human embryonic kidney cells stably transfected with the alpha-subunit of the human, large conductance Ca(+...

Cross-modulation and molecular interaction at the Cav3.3 protein between the endogenous lipids and the T-type calcium channel antagonist TTA-A2.

T-type calcium channels (T/Ca(v)3-channels) are implicated in various physiologic and pathophysiologic processes such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, hypertension, and cancer. T-channels are the target of endogenous signaling lipids including the endocannabinoid anandamide, the ω3-fatty acids, and the lipoamino-acids. However, the precise molecular mechanism by which these molecules inhibit T-cur...

Tonic and reflex control of the cardio-respiratory system by neurons in the ventral medulla

To investigate the channels and neurotransmitters in the ventrolateral medulla (VLM) oblongata that are responsible for the maintenance of sympathetic tone and cardio-respiratory reflex regulation. Microinjections of excitant amino acid (glutamate, 100 nl, 100 mM), calcium channel blockers, agonists and antagonists were made throughout the VLM in anaesthetized rats. Arterial blood pressure, sym...
